Why would someone build an oak floor on top of a lovely historic oak floor?

While removing the existing 230 year-old oak floors to lay the plumbing for the bathroom in the boudoir, the contractors discovered the original wood floor from the monks hidden beneath.  These huge oak planks are 400 years old!!  They are still in great shape too.  We will see if we can reuse them.

We are finally moving to a new century!

Have you ever thought about how lucky we are to have hot and cold running water and a toilet that flushes?  Well, after you use one of these for a while, nothing could be more luxurious than that!  So long, farewell, adieu to you old chamber pot, I can't be more excited we are getting real plumbing!  But, making a modern bathroom in an ancient convent, is turning out to be a bit of a challenge...   We decided to use one of the tiniest bedrooms and convert it into a proper bathroom.  (did I mention how excited I am?!) ...
