This beautiful ancient pitchfork, or what the French call a "fourche a foin" I recently purchased at a flea market held in the Berry region, which is our region of France.  Already it has become indispensable to me in the garden.  It has all the qualities of a dear friend - reliable, strong, light and flexible. At this last week's brocante (flea market), this old copper pot caught my eye.  It was not because it was shiny and new, but because it was old and dull and had a huge copper patch riveted on its side. Most likely because it was old and had been repaired, the brocanteur  (vendor) sold it to me for very little.  By the looks of its construction and dovetail solder at the bottom of the pot, it was at least from the 19th-century.    The huge side patch made me imagine about its history.  It must have served its cook well and must have...

If you come and stay with us at The Old French Convent, you will be greeted by our extremely somber and solid 250 year-old oak front door.   I never thought it was very welcoming, more off-putting I would say (except for the doggie/kitty door).  Of course it has not been restored yet because we are thinking of replacing it - if only the lock wasn't as cool... The fun part about it is the huge key to open the very enormous lock. The lock is downright ugly from the inside, a solid steel box basically. With all the dust...
