Bienvenue! Come celebrate the convent's 400th anniversary and Grand Opening - soon!
Happy 400th Birthday to the Old French Convent! It was in 1619 that the Recollet monks started its construction. Now 400 years later, we are feverishly working to finish its restoration to mark this momentous occasion. This year, we will not only be celebrating, but formally "re"opening the doors of The Old French Convent as a bed and breakfast and events venue.
We invite you to follow us on our blog as we employ the mastery of hand craftsmanship and trades of yesteryear. Gain know-how by watching these artists work their magic in traditional trades such as masonry, stone carving, woodworking, metal forging, gold leafing, gardening, cooking and animal husbandry.
Travel back in time as we untangle the historic architecture made by this incredible property's inhabitants; starting from the 17th-century Recollet monks, to revolutionaries and prisoners of the French Revolution, an amorous chef in the late 18th-century and a colonel from World War I.
Follow a formal dig on our property as professional archaeologists discover and unearth artefacts of a Celtic settlement from the Iron Age, 1000 years before Christ!
We can't wait to see you when we open this summer!
